Open studio hours are designed for glass artists looking for a communal space to create their art! The only requirement to attend open studio is that you have taken at least one beginner level class at my studio. Open studio hours are not meant to replace a class or for you to get step-by-step directions of the stained glass process. However, there will always be a member of the studio present to answer questions and provide tips when needed. Even if you have a home studio set-up, open studio is a great opportunity to work alongside other artists. Check out all the details & find registration below! Please note: Taking a beginner level class at our studio is the pre-requisite for registering for open studio. If you are self-taught or have taken a class at another studio, you must first email me proof of a piece you have made start to finish at groovygreenhousestudio@gmail.com . I will then give you the go ahead to register. If you register for open studio and do not have experience making a piece start to finish you will not be permitted to attend open studio and will not be refunded. You will instead be given a $50 credit to use towards a beginner level class.

Open Studio

When is open studio & how much does it cost?

There are two options for open studio: individual day passes and monthly memberships. If you choose to pay for dates individually, it will be a flat rate of $50 for the date you choose. For example, if you sign up for a date where the allotted hours are 12-4 pm, you will pay the flat rate of $50 whether you only use 1 hour of that time or the entire 4 hours. Monthly memberships are $150 and you may attend any scheduled open studio during that particular month. Monthly memberships also include added perks that you can check out by clicking on the listing for monthly memberships below. Open studio days will vary week to week but schedules will be posted about a month in advance. You can find all scheduled dates below or can check our monthly calendar for a quick overview!

What’s included in the cost of open studio?

The cost will include use of the space, all tools, and most supplies. The only supplies that you will need to purchase separately are glass & metals (solder, copper foil, lead came, zinc border, & chain). All non-included supplies can be purchased from my studio (current pricing list shown here) or you can purchase these items elsewhere and bring them with you. However, I do not sell sheets of glass. We have a great section of free glass that participants of open studio are welcome to use in their projects and I’m happy to provide you with a list of places to purchase glass. Let’s get into the nitty gritty of everything that’s included in the cost of open studio!

  • Use of our 1,200 square foot studio, which is equipped with 6 work benches, garage door, & ventilation system. We also have a refrigerator and microwave available for use.

  • All tools & equipment necessary for copper foil & leaded stained glass. This includes but is not limited to glass cutting tools, foiling tools, glass grinders, & soldering tools. All of our tools are made by reputable brands such as Toyo, Inland, & Hakko.

  • Supplies & chemicals for stained glass such as cutting oil, flux, patinas, flux removers, D Lead products, mirror protectant, & polish.

  • Supplies & equipment for glass fusing such as glass kiln, Glastac, kiln paper, molds, ZYP, & frit maker.

  • Use of our free glass section. This includes some full sheets but is mainly small-medium scrap.
